Comprehensive quality assurance for gas production Platform ONE-Dyas

ONE-Dyas is a well-established gas producer with a strong presence on both the Dutch, UK and German continental shelves. ONE-Dyas manages a range of different offshore production platforms. The new N05-A production platform is located some 20 kilometers north of Borkum, Rottumerplaat and Schiermonnikoog. Productionplatform N05-A is Netherlands’ first offshore gas production platform in the North Sea running fully on windenergy. To achieve that, a power cable will be installed to the German windfarm Riffgat just across the border. Due to this, the emissions during gas production are near-zero. The N05-A platform has been designed for future production of green hydrogen.

Challenge

ONE-Dyas faced a unique challenge: constructing a fully electrified gasproduction platform with autonomous operation. More than 50 suppliers were working simultaneously on different components, and the many innovations created a complex task in terms of planning, coordination and quality assurance.

Smart AIS solution

We delivered together with our client an integrated solution, ensuring quality oversight throughout the platform's construction and installation phase. Key elements of our approach included:

• International inspection coordination: A specialised team managed inspections at contractors, suppliers and also during platform and pipeline installation. This allowed for immediate intervention in quality issues, such as welding, material usage, and coatings. With ten inspectors we ensured consistency and efficiency.

• Quality assurance and issue resolution: During construction, our inspectors ensured quality, such as in welding, materials and coatings. Through systematic checking and the advice of our certified experts, delays and cost overruns could be avoided, allowing the project to proceed on schedule without compromising on quality.

• Efficient Project Monitoring: We facilitated direct communication and up-to-date information for all stakeholders. This was crucial in monitoring progress among the various contractors and suppliers. This  ensured the project met the ONE-Dyas quality standards and regulatory requirements.

Result and impact

Thanks to close collaboration, both the platform and pipeline were installed offshore as planned. Despite challenging circumstances, our continuous monitoring and flexibility ensured that the platform was built and installed on time and safely, fully compliant with regulations and client requirements. The aim is to have the first natural gas available by the end of 2024, whereby ONE-Dyas will make a crucial contribution to energy supply.

Our partnership not only resulted in a successfully installed platform but also established a long-term relationship built on trust, flexibility, and quality assurance. Through proactive engagement and monitoring, we helped the client overcome qualitative, administrative, and logistical obstacles, enabling their project to be completed within schedule.
